Farokh Engineer is one of the earliest wicket keeping players to play for India and he was the first great Wicket-keeper for India and a lot of young keepers took inspiration from him. Farokh Engineer played in the 1960s and 1970s where there were not a lot of people who fancied wicket keeping as a profession but he made it cool and we can see the results now. The full name of Farokh Engineer was Farokh Maneksha Engineer and he was born on 25th February 1938 at Bombay which is now Mumbai. From a young age he was into cricket and interestingly he was into Wicket keeping which surprised a lot of people but he took the proper training and played for India. He had a lot of nicknames which his teammates , friends used to call him by and they are Rooky, Brylcream Boy and Dikra Farookh. He was also a right handed batter and also a right arm leg break bowler.

Farokh Engineer played for India from 1961-1974 which is a 14 year career. His first test match was on 1st December 1961 vs England and he wore tear cap number 102 for India. His last test match was against West Indies on 23rd January 1975. His first ODI match was on 13th July 1974 vs England and he was ODI cap number 3 for India and his last ODI was on 14th June 1975 vs New Zealand just after a year after his first ODI match.
