The original little master of Indian cricket is one of the greatest batters of all time in Test Cricket. He was the one who was the inspiration for all the young players who followed him and he was someone who played without a helmet. 1) Sunil Gavaskar was the first player in the history of international cricket to cross the landmark of 10,000 Test Runs. That was a humongous achievement back in the day.

 

2) He held the record for the most centuries till 2005 with 34 Hundreds and he broke the record of Don Bradman to achieve this landmark.

4) He also holds the record for hitting the most runs against the West Indies in a single Test Series with 774 Runs .

 

5) He has hit the maximum number of runs against the West Indies at 2749 runs and he has also hit the most number of centuries against them with 13 hundreds.

 

6) Sunil Gavaskar is the only cricketer to hit 4 Centuries at 2 test venues which are Port of Spain and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

 

7) He is the first non wicket keeper to have 100 catches in Test Cricket.


8) He is 3rd fastest to score 5000 runs in Test Cricket achieving this feat in 95 innings.


9) He holds the 3rd spot in the list of Most runs in a series by a captain. He scored 732 runs against West Indies in 9 innings in 1978/79.


10) He played 106 consecutive test matches for India from 23rd Jan 1975 to 3rd feb 1987. He is at 4th position in the list of Most consecutive matches for a team in Tests.
