221 vs England (1979)


This was one of the greatest innings in the career of Sunil Gavaskar and it came against England in 1979 and it came in a chase of a record 438 runs to chase in the fourth Innings and Sunil Gavaskar was standing in the way of England and a historic win and he was playing really well and it was looking like India were going to win the match and create history but at the crucial time he got out making 221 mammoth runs and India settled for a draw just 9 runs behind the total of 438 , I’d he had stayed till the end India would have pulled off something incredible. He became a legend after this knock.


236* vs West Indies (1983): Sunil Gavaskar’s highest score in Test


The history making 30th century of Sunil Gavaskar came against West Indies in 1983 and it was also hit highest test score of 236* and he was in his element that day as he hit all the fours in different directions and the strong bowling attack of the West Indies was torn apart by the genius of Sunil Gavaskar and he cemented his legacy as one of the greatest of all time and even now this innings is remembered even now.


127 vs Pakistan (1983)

103* vs New Zealand (1987): Sunil Gavaskar’s highest score in ODI


His only ODI hundred had to find a spot in this list as it was a very special knock by a very special player who was not known to excel in the shorter format but in one innings he proved everyone wrong and he smashed this century in a crucial 1987 World Cup game against New Zealand while India were chasing 222 for the win and Sunil Gavaskar hit 10 fours and 3 sixes leading India to a famous win and his first and only ODI hundred in the process as well.
