We are here with another comparison between 2 of the greatest wicket keepers to ever play the sport and no one has taken more catches than the 2 of them. And they were also really good batters for their teams. Today we will be talking about Mark Boucher vs Adam Gilchrist and frankly I have been wanting to do this for a while now and so let’s get to the article.
Before I get to the stats Comparison between these 2 greats , I want to also say that after they left their teams they have not been able to.find the ideal replacements for them and this just goes to show that both Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist were one of a kind and that they were special and having more of them can be very Hard. So, let’s have a look at both their stats and then compare them.
Mark Boucher
Firstly we will talk about the undisputed greatest wicket keeper in the history of South Africa cricket and someone whose records will probably not be broken by any other South African wicket keeper. Mark Boucher other than being the best keeper was also a great lower order batter who got runs in important situations.
Test Cricket
Mark Boucher has played a mammoth 147 Test Matches for South Africa which is one of the most ever for a wicket keeper of all time. And in these matches he scored 5515 test runs at an average of 30.30 and he also got 5 Test Hundreds and his best score was 125. And as a wicketkeeper his stats are second to none as he has taken a record 532 catches in test cricket and also 23 Stumpings so he did not enjoy stumpings that much.
ODI Cricket
And in the 50 over format of the game he played 295 ODIs for South Africa and he made 4686 runs at an average of 28.57 and he also made 1 hundred and a highest score of 147*. And as the wicket keeper yet again he took 403 catches and 22 Stumpings. So in both formats he has taken more 935 catches as a wicketkeeper which is mind boggling.
Adam Gilchrist
This is the third article that we are featuring this legendary Australia wicket keeper in and I think our readers will have had his stats by heart but as the article demands it , I will talk about his incredible stats again. Adam Gilchrist being in all 3 articles proves that he was the best of them.
Test Cricket
Adam Gilchrist played 96 Test Matches for Australia and he could have played 100 but he chose to retire for the good of the team. He made 5570 runs at a great average of 47.60 with 17 test hundreds and a highest score of 204*. He took 379 catches as a wicketkeeper in test cricket and he also did 37 Stumpings in test cricket. He was an all time legend
ODI Cricket
Adam Gilchrist was one of the best opening batters in ODI cricket history and he played 287 Matches in which he scored 9619 runs at an average of 35.89 and he made 16 ODI hundreds. His highest score was 172 and as a wicket keeper he took 417 Catches and effected 55 Stumpings. Again an all time great in the ODI format.
Mark Boucher vs Adam Gilchrist Stats Comparison:
As Batter in Test Cricket
As Wicketkeeper in Test Cricket
As Batter in ODI Cricket
As Wicketkeeper in ODI Cricket
Conclusion:
As a batter in both formats Adam Gilchrist is ahead of Mark Boucher as he got almost 4500 more runs than him and he also made 33 international Hundreds as compared to 6 of Mark Boucher. However as a wicketkeeper it is very close as in the test format Mark Boucher clearly had the better career with 150 more Catches but fewer Stumpings and in ODI Cricket it was more even but Adam Gilchrist got a lot more Stumpings than Mark Boucher.
