This is the last of the articles where we will look at the stats Comparison between fast bowlers and we have a great one for our readers and it will be Glenn McGrath vs Dale Steyn and these 2 are some of the best of the best of all time and I am sure the readers will like hearing about the best fast bowlers from Australia and South Africa respectively.
Before we get into the article, I just want to say how much of a pleasure it has been writing these 3 Stats Comparison articles and I hope that we get to write much more involving different disciplines of the sport and compare the best of the best from those. So, with that being said let’s look at the Stats Comparison between Glenn McGrath vs Dale Steyn.
Glenn McGrath
Glenn McGrath has been the greatest that Australia has seen in the fast bowling department and from a nation which has had fast bowlers for days, being the best ever means Glenn McGrath must have done a lot to get that tag. Glenn McGrath had a knack for getting lots of wickets in a spell because no batter could pick him.
Test Cricket
The second best fast bowler in the history of test cricket and Glenn McGrath, just like Dale Steyn got wickets in every condition and the pitch due not Matter much to him Glenn McGrath played 124 test matches for Australia and in those Matches he took 563 Test wickets for Australia at an average of 21.64 which is among the best if all time. Glenn McGrath used to get wickets for fun and he took 29 Five wicket hauls in his year career and he would have liked to get to 600 test Wickets.
ODI Cricket
He is the only 1 among the 3 we are talking about that was equally successful as he played 250 ODIs for Australia and he got a massive 381 ODI wickets which is among the Top 10 all time highest wicket takers in ODI Cricket. He had an incredible average of 22.02 in ODI Cricket as well which is unheard of and he was one of the main reasons that Australia won back to back ODI World Cup titles.
Dale Steyn
We talked about Dale Steyn in a previous article and we talked about how great he was in test cricket across all conditions and I want to reiterate that because it is not easy to pick wickets in every country you Play in and in the same level that one does at home and he was good in ODIs too.
Test Cricket
Dale Steyn was the favorite bowler of mine and many others in test cricket because he was beautiful to look at the bowl from his perfect action and he was also the fastest In the world. He played 93 Test Matches for South Africa and he took 439 test Wickets at a very good average of 22.95 and he got 26 Five wicket hauls In his test career and aa I said in my previous article that if Dale Steyn had remained fit then he would have easily got to 500 test Wickets.
ODI Cricket
Dale Steyn was a good ODI bowler but he did not do to the best of his abilities. He played 125 ODIs for South Africa and he took a total of 196 ODI wickets at an average of 25.95. He should have got to 250 ODI Wickets minimum but due to his injury he had to cut his ODI career short. He took more than 630 international Wickets for South Africa.
Stats Comparison
In test cricket it is a close battle between the 2 but Glenn McGrath is still 130 wickets ahead of Dale Steyn in test cricket and that cannot be ignored so he has an edge in test cricket. In ODIs it is a big gap as Glenn McGrath has almost 190 more wickets than Dale Steyn and Glenn McGrath is one of the best ODI bowlers of all time.
