Germany won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which took place in Brazil. It was a historic competition. Argentina, which also had a fantastic campaign, ended up as the squad that placed second. Argentina, Nigeria, Iran, and Bosnia and Herzegovina were all placed in Group F of the competition. They finished first in their group with nine points after winning every game they played during the group round. With four goals in three games, Lionel Messi was the star performer for Argentina throughout the group stage. Argentina and Germany faced off in the World Cup final, which was a rematch of the 1986 and 1990 championships.
The Maracana Stadium served as the venue for the game. Argentina had the better scoring opportunities despite Germany having the most possession in the first half. In the 21st minute, Gonzalo Higuain had a superb opportunity to score but missed the goal. Up until Germany's Mario Gotze scored in the 113th minute, the game stayed scoreless. Argentina attempted to score an equalizer, but they were unable, as Germany won the game 1-0. Argentina enjoyed a fantastic tournament despite the heartbreak of losing in the championship game, and Lionel Messi was named the Golden Ball winner as the competition's top player. He contributed to Argentina's journey to the final with his four goals and one assist during the competition. Here we take a look at the players of the 2014 Argentina team and where are they now:
